Home Coffee Maker Guide

espresso-machine

You would probably be hard pressed to find a home today that doesn’t own a coffee maker. They are in practically every kitchen in America. Some are nothing more than stove top percolators and some are full-fledged coffee/espresso/cappuccino makers able to churn out a latte or a simple cup of coffee.

The coffee maker you decide on for your kitchen should be one that matches your coffee preferences. If all that you are concerned with is making a good cup of coffee, a simple coffee maker will suffice. However, if you are regularly making a morning trek to the local coffee shop for an espresso, then you might want to consider purchasing one for your kitchen.

There are many types of coffee makers to choose from, knowing what each one is will help greatly in making your purchase.

News: The New WMF1 One Cup Coffee Maker

wmf1

This is the new WMF1 one cup coffee maker.  This coffee maker is stylish in design with a straightforward loading system.  To make a cup of coffee you load enough water for one cup in the the flip-up lid at the top of the coffee machine.  The cassette located above the coffee mug is where you insert the coffee pod then you press a button to heat the water and brew a cup of coffee directly in your mug.  The coffee maker will come in kiwi, berry, stone, silver and black colors.

I would normally avoid using coffee makers with the coffee pod system since you never know how fresh the coffee is and being stuck in the coffee pod economy, but I would give this coffee maker a go considering the excellent design.  From the looks of it though you might have trouble using your favorite coffee mug with this coffee maker since it has a special niche for the supplied coffee mug.  There is no word on price yet since the press release.

Coffee Maker Made for Outdoors

Brunton’s Flip-n-Drip takes care of all those crude, incomplete apparatus and brewing woes, so you can enjoy your good kick of caffeine whenever and wherever you feel like. It’s a three-part coffee maker that boils water in the base, after which you can attach the “brew-chamber”, a section that holds the grounds. After the water percolates through the grounds, it emanates aromatic oil and flavor and the coffee ends up in an integrated cup.

Hourglass Coffee Maker Review

340x_hourglasscoffeeThe Hourglass Coffee Maker is a simplistic product, focusing on design. But lets look at the brewing process.

The concept of the Hourglass is simple. You put grounds to soak in the bottom, then you wait 12 hours and flip it to filter your coffee into the empty chamber.

But it’s not that simple.

The system uses cold brewing, meaning that you load system with grounds and water before waiting 12+ hours to brew. Once it’s brewed and you do the flippy part, you still don’t have coffee. You have something called “coffee extract.” So you heat some water and add two shots of the extract. And then you finally have coffee.

On the plus side, the system does promise to brew coffee with far lower acid content than traditional methods. In case you’re interested, the Hourglass Coffee Maker goes for $70.

Gold Coffee Filters. Time to make the switch?

Gold tone coffee filters are becoming increasingly popular with coffee enthusiasts these days. These gold tone filters provided by names such as Braun, Black and Decker, Krups, and Swiss Gold commonly have new users describing a definite ‘brighter’, ‘livelier’, or ‘more complex’ flavor in their brews. So, is it time to make the switch from disposable paper coffee filters to the permanent gold coffee filter? Read on and decide for yourself.

What is a gold tone filter?

A gold tone filter is a permanent coffee filter made of stainless steel that is enhanced with gold plating. This layer of gold ensures that no metallic taste is imparted to your coffee. Additionally, since gold tone filters can be used over and over, they eliminate the need for paper filter replacements, lasting users several years. If you want to spend the extra money, Swiss Gold even makes coffee filters of pure 23 karat gold, which will last you even longer.
